travel Memories
Project Brief
Purpose
How can we better remember special moments? These booklets serve as souveniers from trips I've taken, holding more detail, love, and laughter than a gift store trinket ever could.
Story
One of my friends and I have been traveling together for over a decade. We're people for whom phones become an afterthought while together, creating a wonderful shared presence during travels, but a severe lack of detailed memories upon returning. This booklet seeks to bridge the gap, capturing day-by-day accounts of what we experienced and transitioning the ephemeral into the tangible.
Goals
1. Timeless & Unfussy
→
Avoid trimming
→
Avoid hi-res photo prints
→
Classic, vintage DIY style that can extend across a collection of booklets, for ongoing cohesion
2. Playful & Tactile
→
Tone echos the easy-going nature of the trip
→
Satisfying physical experience of holding and manipulating the booklet
Audience
As a personal project meant for only a couple people, I was able to lean into inside knowledge that built upon the memories we formed while traveling. For instance, during our visit to London we took note of all the pub names we saw, finding them wildly consistent (Arms, Crowns, Heads, Kings, and Queens). I placed each pub we noted on a custom map, alongside a couple paragraphs briefly explaining the history of pub names, contextualizing the rampant redundancies we'd noted.
